Illustrations by Gabriel Mykaj from Wargamer Illustrated magazine - Bavarian Cavalry circa 1683 - 1704

These illustrations were included in the monthly magazine Wargamer Illustrated many issues ago and were a nice set seemingly based on Hoffman drawings.  My scans and copy are deficient in that they were over exposed a bit and there is some washout of the colors that has occurred.  The mid-blue is too light as I usually note for example.

Another issue is the red as depicted for the Dragoons and elsewhere was not the red-brown color shown in these illustrations, but a true red dye color (see the additional other pictures at the bottom).  Perhaps the illustrator was using the Todd prints from our last posting where the red does seem to have a tint of brown mixed in.  All too often it seems it is difficult to speak definitively about the intended color of uniforms as issued to troops a few hundred years ago!!!

Here is a different illustration by Anton Hoffman for the Dragoons.
And here is a couple of nicely painted 30mm flats that show this uniform also:

I am always amazed at the depths that a 30mm flat figure (zinnfiguren) can be painted and will be adding some pictures of my own collection soon.
